About the Role

Position Summary


The Medical Assistant (MA) supports providers and clinical staff in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to pediatric patients from infancy through adolescence. This role combines clinical and administrative responsibilities to ensure efficient clinic operations and a positive experience for patients and families.


Key Responsibilities


  • Prepare patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs, height/weight, and medical history

  • Assist providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments

  • Administer immunizations and medications as directed and within scope of practice

  • Perform point-of-care testing (e.g., rapid strep, flu, COVID, urinalysis)

  • Provide patient and caregiver education on medications, treatments, and preventive care

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)

  • Manage patient flow, including rooming, discharge instructions, and follow-up scheduling

  • Clean and stock exam rooms; ensure proper sterilization of instruments and equipment

  • Handle phone calls, messages, and prescription refill requests as appropriate

  • Front office tasks, including scheduling, check-in/check-out, taking payments, etc.


Work Environment & Schedule


  • Outpatient pediatric clinic setting

  • Daytime hours, 8 am to 5 pm

  • No evenings, weekends or holidays

  • Frequent interaction with children, infants, and families


Physical Requirements


  • Ability to stand, walk, and move between exam rooms for extended periods

  • Ability to lift and assist pediatric patients as needed

  • Manual dexterity for clinical tasks and computer use

Requirements

Required Qualifications


  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to be certified

  • Knowledge of pediatric care principles and immunization schedules

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially with children and families

  • Ability to multitask and remain organized and detail-oriented in a fast-paced environment

  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems


Preferred Qualifications


  • Current Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent)

  • Previous experience in pediatrics or primary care

  • Experience with eClinicalWorks

  • Bilingual (e.g., Spanish/English)

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Excel, Gmail and other online applications
